(20 bucks says this is Tozette)
Bella/Voldy but I think that’s a given. Bella and Sev would be interesting too. Like, especially during their years at school. (I always assumed they were relatively close in age.)
My first thought for Xeno is Lucius, mostly so they can be the ship with the best hair in the series. My next immediate thought, for whatever reason, is Narcissa. They’d both to anything for their kids?
"No," said Lucius in chill fury. His expression was unreadable.
He was standing all rigid and tense, and Narcissa sat perched on the settee of their summer parlour. The elves had fled the room quickly after bringing her tea - they could taste the tension in the air like an encroaching thunderstorm.
"Lucius," sighed Narcissa in a voice no louder than a gentle breeze, but he whirled from her, pacing the length of the room.
”Absolutely not. No. No.”
Narcissa sipped her tea and waited for him to wind down. She had no particular fear of his anger, but it took him quite some time to even contemplate the matter rationally.
"Why Xeno?” he demanded suddenly, turning on his heel and facing her. He’d planted his feet and his eyes were hard.
She did wish he wasn’t treating this unpleasant business as a personal offence. It was hardly her fault, after all.
"You like Xeno," she pointed out in an even, calm voice. "I thought it best —"
Lines appeared around his eyes, a kind of unflattering squinty disgust. “I like Severus,” he pointed out acidly. “Are you going to bed him, too?”
Narcissa’s spine stiffened. She lifted her chin and gave him a level look. “That comment is beneath you,” she said icily.
His jaw clenched. After a second, he released a sigh. He came to her, easy and surprising in his vulnerability, standing so close it would have been more natural to touch. She could feel the heat of him.
"It was unkind of me," he said, which was as close to an apology as Narcissa was likely to get.
Narcissa inclined her head. She took his hand in hers, felt it large and warm and solid against her skin, and sighed gently. “Lucius,” she said, looking at his hand rather than his face, “I have chosen Xenophilius because you get on with him as well as you get on with anybody, and because he’s a pureblood, and also because he is blond.”
"And I am going to sleep with him," she said, cutting him off halfway through an indrawn breath, "because nine centuries of inbreeding has rendered you infertile, and if our child had dark hair it would raise some uncomfortable questions."
When she finally looked up, Lucius was clutching her hand tightly - not quite tightly enough to hurt, but on his way - and his expression was one of faint but obscure pain.
She squeezed his hand in response, and knew he would relent.
[An AU, in which Draco and Luna have three parents, and there is a sprawling manor house in Wiltshire full of blonds with fabulous hair, and also full of explosions. The Quibbler has a much better reputation in this universe.]
This is so cool! But like, Luna’s mom? (I have this weird thing where I don’t like to break up canon ships that I like if I can help it) This started me off on a thought train where the Malfoy’s look after Xeno and Luna after her mom dies in the horrible accident, and it’s like 8-10 years after the whole thing to make Draco where they’d been treating each other like not-quite-friends, not-quite-family for all that time. And now they move in with the Malfoys instead of visiting for a month every summer or winter or whatever, and Lucius and Xeno still have some lingering awkwardness that they haven’t dealt with and Narcissa just wants to lock them in an office or something so they deal with the years of unresolved shit.
Um, I was not intending to think up an AU plotline to your AU ficlet, but here it is.
